Field trip to Fort Frederick April 16, 2010
Now that I've recovered I can tell you we had a beautiful fun day together. We went to Fort Frederick over in Big Pool, MD. It's a fort used in the French & Indian War, Revolutionary War and the Civil War, although it never actually saw combat. It was free to get in and we saw a short movie about the fort. Next weekend they have a big re-enactment if anyone is interested. We then went on a nature hike around the Beaver Pond and saw lots of big red snapping turtles sunning themselves. On the hike we ran into a 'nice' big black snake, about 3' long. Oh by the way Abbey found a snake before we even left the house. We think a baby garter, but not sure. Carey still has to take care of it. We haven't seen a snake here since we moved in 4 years ago. Alley says she's never going outside again.....heehee. So we dealt with squimishness of the presence of snakes all day. After our hike we tried to go to another National Park in Hancock MD, about the C&O Canal, but it was closed. So we just wandered out way though Berkeley Springs and the antique shops there along with the bath house park. We had a great day together. Austin was a trooper, and the girls were so thankful all throughout the day. We need to do it more often! Beautiful memories made. Pictures to come.
